Saturday, April 29; 9:00 am – 3:00 pm
Ever wanted to learn how to rappel on your own? Well here’s your chance! Come join our experienced staff for three sessions of in-depth instruction as we dive into the intricacies of safe, efficient, and fun rope rappelling practices. Taking place in the classroom and on the cliff, be prepared for plenty of hands-on opportunities, and all the knowledge you can handle. All rappelling gear provided. No previous experience necessary, although comfort around heights is a must. Participants must be 18 years of age or older. The Saturday session will take place at our cliffs at the Sawyer Quarry Nature Preserve at 26940 Lime City Road, Perrysburg. The rain date for this session is Sunday, April 30; 9:00 am – 3:00 pm. Please note that all 3 sessions must be attended in order to complete the instructional series. The goal of this series is to make students competent in setting up their own basic rappel, using accepted safe practices. We will be covering basic gear and proper use, knots, basic rigging concepts, physics of rigging a rappel, and proper rappelling techniques. Please bring note taking materials, multiple handouts will be provided. Please bring a water bottle, and sack lunch and snacks on Saturday, lunch will take place on site. Closed toe footwear only, access to cliff tops requires short hikes on slightly uneven terrain. Personal gear may be used at staff discretion. Contact Shawn Ruemmele with any questions at sruemmele@wcparks.org. |
