Description: |
Ready to improve your kayaking ability and confidence? The morning seeks to refine your paddling skills. The afternoon puts those skills to use, equipping you with rescue knowledge and practice in the afternoon. Prepare for an active day with lots of paddling and frequent swimming. All kayaks and gear are provided. Personal equipment is welcome, please check with the leader beforehand. Registration deadline Monday, July 11. Must be 14 years of age or older (must have liability form signed by legal guardian before attending the program). Dress for the weather and frequent swimming. Bring a change of clothes, towel, lunch, water, and any weather/water protection you see fit (sunscreen, nose plugs, earplugs, etc.). Previous kayaking experience beneficial. Participant must meet Essential Eligibility Criteria (abilities and characteristics deemed fundamental for participation). EEC includes:
1. Breathe independently (i.e., not require medical devices to sustain breathing)
2. Independently maintain sealed airway passages while under water
3. Independently hold head upright without neck / head support
4. Manage personal care independently or with assistance of a companion
5. Manage personal mobility independently or with a reasonable amount of assistance
6. Follow instructions and effectively communicate independently or with assistance of a companion
7. Independently turn from face-down to face-up and remain floating face up while wearing a properly fitted life jacket
8. Get in / out of a paddlecraft independently or with a reasonable amount of assistance
9. Independently get out and from under a capsized paddlecraft*
10. Maintain a safe body position while attempting skills, activities and rescues listed in the Course Outline, and have the ability to recognize and identify to others when such efforts would be unsafe given your personal situation* Please make arrangements with program leader for special needs or concerns regarding the above EEC.
