Nature Play: Shelter Building

Join us in practicing your shelter building skills in our nature playscape! Build a mini shelter and help us build one big enough for us to fit inside. This experience is ideal for ages 5 and up. Getting dirty is a frequent occurrence at Nature Play, wear clothes you don’t mind getting dirty. Registration required; please register the participating child only. Adults are required to stay with the participating child.

Yoga in the Parks

Join instructor Glory Meyer for an all-levels yoga practice in a peaceful and serene setting! This practice will be a combination of standing poses and poses on the mat. Modification for leveling the practice up or down will be provided so that everyone experiences the unique level of practice needed for their body. No yoga experience is necessary; both beginners and experienced yogis are welcome! Please bring your own mat and water bottle. Registration will close before the beginning of the first class. After registering for the program, you will be welcome to attend the weekly sessions each month.

Intermediate Orienteering

Are you looking to build on your compass skills? We will introduce map reading, compass use and route planning indoors. After learning these skills, we’ll try out a challenge course spread throughout the park. Prior orienteering experience is great, but not required. Dress for extensive off trail trekking through rough vegetation and wet areas. No dogs permitted.

Wild Lights Workshop

Decorate and light-up 1 of 10 stations at the Wild-Lights Workshop, January 8th, 2025 (weather date January 9th).  Bring festive cheer to life-sized 3D animal statues and turn the woods at W.W. Knight Nature Preserve into a magical twinkling forest for visitors to explore during the Wild Lights Weekend, January 10-12. Prizes courtesy of the Friends of the Wood County Park District for the "most inspired" stations include: 1st $150, 2nd $100, 3rd $50

Participants bring their own lights and decorations. Participants will be contacted directly and provided with a picture of their issued “scene” with one or multiple animals after registration DEADLINE of Wednesday January 1, 2025.

Stations will be judged by a panel of Wood County Parks staff and volunteer judges. One winner will be determined Sunday, January 12. All participants will be contacted directly and a public announcement made on Wood County Park District social media.
